Director Sumter Workforce

Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC) is seeking a dynamic individual for an exciting opportunity as the Director Sumter Workforce Partnership. This innovative program, which is comprised of a partnership of public and private sectors, will be designed to create the next generation of education and training opportunities that can support a multitude of workforce development needs in Sumter County. This public-private partnership will directly benefit economic development in Sumter County, which is home to The Villages, ranked as the fastest growing community in the country.
Applicants should be committed to excellence in program development, leadership, and collaboration. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of workforce development; competency based, training on demand education; and will have the skills to create programs that lead to industry certifications. The successful candidate will serve in a leadership role in the oversight, management, and operation of the program and will be an active participant in the Sumter County community.
Educational Requirements: Masters degree in business, organizational management, education, public administration, or human resource management with four years supervisory/leadership experience. Two years experience in business support, customized training development or economic development. A bachelors degree in business or related field with six years of appropriate experience and four years management/leadership experience may be considered in lieu of masters degree.
Qualifications for Appointment: Excellent organizational, problem solving, and time management skills. Experience in emerging business support and development. Working knowledge of business management and budget principles. Excellent oral, written, and listening communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with key community stakeholders, faculty, staff, and students. Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a timely manner. Computer skills in Windows software application packages. Travel and flexible hours required.
Example of Duties: Responsible for the management and operation of the Sumter County Partnership for Workforce Innovation and Education. Establish partnerships with public and private entities to develop and provide programs and services targeted to key business sectors in Sumter County. Research Sumter County workforce data and develop, implement, and sustain training programs that meet local workforce development needs. Ability to create and maintain programs that are innovative, non-traditional, and competency based.
